9 venues that kick serious winery wedding goals

Vineyard wedding venue
Get excited at the thought of rustic wooden barrels, rows of tangled vines and intimate cellar doors? A winery wedding could be for you...
Vineyards have long made popular wedding venues, and there are plenty of reasons why. The most obvious? Good looks. It’s near impossible to find a winery with any bad angles, so there are no prizes for guessing how your wedding snaps will come out (hint: really, really good!). But there’s another reason to get hitched at a winery, and it involves two of our favourite things: food and wine. Oh, and then there’s the fact that you can often have the winery to yourselves, the flexibility of different wedding spaces, the styling opportunities… well, you get the idea. Need more convincing? Here are nine wineries that will earn you plenty of wedding venue points. Bottoms up!

For views and vines...

It’s not every couple that can boast they got hitched on a working winery, but you'll be able to after your nuptials at Toms Cap Vineyard Retreat. This gorgeous property is in the heart of Gippsland and is a total one-stop wedding destination. There’s no such thing as a cookie-cutter celebration here, and the expert team will become your go-to guides for everything from where to have your ceremony (among the vines or on the lawn?) to which spots offer the best photo ops. Knowing where to take your happy snaps will be especially helpful, because the property has 100 acres of grounds to explore. Couples wanting to stretch out the celebrations for as long as possible can make the most of the luxe on-site accommodation. Tip: snag the lodge for you and your bridal party.

For a wine-country institution...

For couples who want a winery celebration, the Hunter Valley is a no-brainer. For couples who also want acclaimed food and wine, views for days and a side of wow factor, a wedding at Margan Family Wines is your next step. The venue features a courtyard, bar and restaurant. Of course, you’ll also find that winery wedding staple: a barrel room. This warm space makes a dreamy setting for an elegant, sophisticated reception –
we love it set up with on-trend long tables – and the stunning lighting pendants create a soft, welcoming environment. It’s not just wine that Margan does well: the team also has a knack for top-notch fare. Using its ‘estate grown, estate made’ ethos, menus are crafted with produce harvested from the property’s one-acre kitchen garden and orchard. Extra produce is sourced from local growers. For your big day, the restaurant team will work with you to create a menu that’s sure to tickle tastebuds, so make sure you tell your guests to bring their appetites…

For a venue that delivers on intimate, rustic feels...

If you’ve ever Instagram-stalked #yarravalleywedding, chances are you’ve already set eyes on Zonzo Estate. For those who haven't, prepare to be impressed. Zonzo Estate sits on a patch of earth that was once a dairy farm; the restaurant lives in the bones of the old milking shed. So if you guessed that a wedding at Zonzo Estate could tick both your vineyard and rustic checkboxes, you’d be bang on. It’s also heavy on the intimate vibes, so you won’t have to worry about not being able to mingle with all of your guests. There are plenty of options for your ceremony and reception, and an abundance of locations for photos – don’t forget to visit the famous train tracks! When it’s time to feast, the kitchen team has your tastebuds well looked after. Expect mouth-watering Italian fare, paired with perfectly matched wine.

For a slice of la dolce vita...

Do you have a coin handy? You might just need to toss it when it’s time to choose your wedding location at Tuscany Wine Estate. That’s what comes with the territory of getting hitched at a setting with four different venue possibilities. Most of the estate’s weddings are hosted in The Mill Restaurant, an eatery boasting gorgeous views, a stellar wine list and excellent dishes. Your other options are The Mill Courtyard, The Fountain Room or The Conservatory. The estate also boasts on-site accommodation: 26 Olive Grove and 12 Vineyard View rooms. These digs make great go-tos for couples and bridal parties arriving a few days before the wedding. Any out-of-town guests will also appreciate not having to hike it back to their accommodation when your reception winds down.

For a chic, sophisticated setting...

Vineyard wedding venue
Frogmore Creek boasts almost as many awards as it does vines. The vineyard is just a 15-minute drive from Hobart’s CBD, so has an easy-to-find location (great for those relying on GPS!) but countryside feels. Brides who tie the knot at Frogmore Creek will be treated to access to the Tower Galley, which can be used as a private suite for primping, pampering and prepping. You’ll be able to relax and enjoy a glass of sparkling wine as you and your leading ladies get ready for the big day. The property’s amphitheatre is a stunning space for ceremonies, with gorgeous views over the vineyard and its neighbouring waterways and hills. Pre-dinner drinks can be held on the terrace before the party moves to the Frogmore Creek Barrel Room for the reception.

For a hinterland beauty...

Take just one look at Sarabah Estate Vineyard and two words that will likely spring to mind are picturesque and private. There are gorgeous views no matter where you look, whether it’s towards neighbouring Lamington National Park or across the 50 acres of grounds. From Brisbane, the vineyard is just under 30 minutes' drive; from the Gold Coast it’s just over half an hour. If you want to ditch four wheels all together, the team at Sarabah Estate Vineyard can arrange a private helicopter journey. Ceremonies can be held in a number of locations, ranging from the manor lawn to a jetty or the olive grove. Your reception can be hosted in the European-inspired chalet or a marquee. Those with parties under 100 guests can celebrate in the property’s cellar door, too.

For a venue sure to earn 'ooh's and 'aah's...

The event area at Longview Vineyard has been transformed from an old dairy and hay shed into a downright-gorgeous wedding space. Expect open fireplaces, exposed timbers, magnificent verandahs and windows that look over the picturesque vineyard. Your newlywed status can start by swapping vows on the property's lush green lawns, before moving to the restored barn for your celebration. Weddings at Longview Vineyard are built around its award-winning estate grown wines and your menu will be created by the resident chef power-team. The venue is all-inclusive in every sense of the word and there is four-star accommodation on the property, which can cater for up to 36 guests.

For photo ops anywhere you look...

If the Laurance Wines property was a beauty queen, it’d definitely take the title of Miss Universe – it has everything going for it. First up, its Margaret River location. This region is to wine what Beyoncé is to, well, everything: top level. Then you have the manicured lawns, a garden boasting 100 rose bushes, an arbor covered in rose and jasmine, a lake, vines and an architect-designed cellar. Put simply, the photos you take here will have your engaged friends saying, “Ooh, I want to get married there, too!” Plus, couples who host both their ceremony and reception at Laurance will have exclusive use of the cellar and grounds for set periods of time.

For a vineyard heavyweight...

Vineyard wedding venue
Glen Ewin Estate is a South Australian institution and for good reason. Only four minutes past Adelaide’s outer suburbs, Glen Ewin has everything you could ever want from a vineyard venue: impeccable grounds, flexible wedding spaces and a team who will make sure your day is just right. The estate can cater for different styles of weddings too, be it a small, intimate affair or an all-out sit-down event for 300 guests. It’s no surprise then that the venue has picked up a smattering of awards. On the big day, you can celebrate in The Pulpshed or The Gatehouse. The former space has rustic game down pat. Well suited to larger weddings, it’s tucked between old stone buildings, lawns, woodlands and a large lake. The Gatehouse is a venue that balances modern and rustic vibes, and it has access to a deck area.
