Bedarra Island greets guest with a chilled bottle of Bollinger on arrival, providing a hint of things to come. Bedarra is an elite hideaway with just 16 private villas located 20 minutes from Dunk Island by launch. The feeling of exclusivity at Bedarra is immediately apparent but also completely free of pretentiousness; it’s impossible not to feel relaxed here. Staff seem to delight in making everyone’s stay perfect, always ready with a smile and suggestions for things to do, although Bedarra is more about relaxation and indulgence than adventurous pursuits. Swimming in the pristine waters surrounding the island and a romantic picnic is distraction enough in such beautiful surroundings.
Exceptional food and wine is the rule here, not the exception, with candlelit degustation dinners and a well-considered drinks list featuring respected labels and lesser-known rising stars included in the daily rate. Most evenings are spent on the pool deck, dining under the stars, before wandering down the beach to dip a toe in the water.
Each villa at Bedarra has been placed to make the most of the amazing views but also with complete privacy in mind. The Point and Pavilion suites feature heated plunge pools and have an undeniable ‘wow’ factor, but every room has its own unique charms. Suite 11 in particular, with its private entry and secluded deck overlooking Hernandia Bay, is an absolute gem for those on a somewhat tighter budget.
There’s also Biagurra Spa although a couple’s massage in the privacy of your villa is an even more indulgent option. Intimate ceremonies are a specialty at Bedarra and the wedding photographs, many of which feature the dramatic granite boulders and shimmering turquoise waters for which the island is famous, are stunning.
Mother Nature has even taken care of logistics: the two most beautiful wedding spots are on opposite sides of the island so if one is too windy the other is sure to be just perfect. Not unlike Bedarra itself.
