More and more couples are ditching the big white wedding at home in favour of tying the knot overseas, and it’s easy to see why, with so many glorious destinations around the world to choose from.
A destination wedding is in vogue. Often the decision to get married overseas in one made based on the couple’s love of travel and a break from tradition. A destination wedding also lets friends and family who love you really get to know each other.
The wedding cost
While the average Australian wedding costs about $36,000 the average cost of a destination wedding is between $8000 and $10,000, including the couple’s airfares and accommodation, and all wedding costs such as the venue, food, cake, flowers and professional photography. It’s generally cheaper because the average number of guests is between 20 and 30 and overseas resorts don’t charge more for weddings than other functions.
Using destination wedding planners
While many couples organise destination weddings themselves, there’s a risk involved when they do.
Professional destination wedding planners will travel to the resort they use, so they can guarantee the quality of the service and supplies. They also often know the wedding coordinators and ensure the venues are really well set-up for weddings. The last thing you want is to get somewhere and not be happy with it.
