Running away to tie the knot

David Oliver

It can be an exercise that saves you time, money and sanity. From the outset it seems as if it would take more of these three things to organise your wedding overseas or in another part of the country but that doesn’t have to be the case.

Depending on the location you choose it can be a lot cheaper than conventional weddings since it is less likely to have all the trappings such as a hired fleet of classic cars.

Wedding Planner

It can also be a lot easier and quicker to organise since most resort hotels or overseas venues will have wedding planners who can do a lot of the work for you and provide you with all your wedding ideas. You can expect a lot of email correspondence from them to discuss options and check things with you but you won’t have to spend countless weekends checking out potential venues.

There is of course the fun aspect to think about. Imagine how thrilling it would be to start your new life as a married couple in a new or special place. To use a cliche, everyone loves a lover, so don’t be surprised if you are overwhelmed with kindness and genuine happiness from strangers. Destination weddings are romantic, exotic and a wonderful way to celebrate your union.

As destination weddings gain popularity, more and more locations are offering special packages to lure happy couples to their shores. The world really is your oyster when choosing but listed here are some perennial favourites:

  • Bali
  • Broome
  • Thailand
  • Byron Bay
  • Italy
  • Las Vegas
  • Hawaii
  • Cook Islands
  • Caribbean
