This destination real-life wedding is incredibly special. Set on the magical island of Santorini in Greece, it's sure to inspire your own real wedding ideas.
WHO: Penelope Kypuros, 27, organisational psychologist, William Ioannidis, 29, structural engineer
WHERE: Penelope and William married on the breath-snatching island of Santorini in Greece. “Will and I are both of Greek heritage and I had always dreamed of getting married in Santorini. It is such a magical place.”
BRIDE'S GOWN: Oglia Loro Couture crafted Penelope’s drop-waist gown. “I wanted a look that would fit in with the destination, something classic with a Grecian touch.” The bride completed her ensemble with stunning drop crystal earrings and a cathedral-length veil that billowed in the wind. She held a simple yet stunning bouquet of fresh, white peonies, as did her bridesmaids.
GROOM'S SUIT:William looked dashing in a classic black Pierucci suit and Jack London tie, which was perfect for their elegant destination wedding. His groomsmen went with the casual-chic look of white shirts, black suit pants and black ties to match.
THE RECEPTION:The alfresco reception was held at La Maltese Estate, Imerovigli, under the stars overlooking the caldera. “We had a band walk with me to the church and a DJ for the reception. It was a typical Greek party, which finished at 5am with people dancing on the tables.” The setting was out of this world, with views over Santorini’s azure ocean and jagged cliff edges. Tables were decorated tastefully with white tablecloths, understated white vases holding pretty posies and high-backed white chairs.
THE BOMBONIERE: The couple presented guests with five sugared almonds in tulle tied together with rope. “These are called ‘koufeta’ in Greek and represent the bittersweet life of a married couple. The five almonds each have a significant meaning, wishing the new husband and wife happiness, health, wealth, children and a long life.
