After meeting on a random night of speed dating and getting engaged on a romantic trip to New York, Brooke and David were excited about planning their wedding day.
The bride says choosing a venue was the hardest part of planning. The couple wanted somewhere really different that also provided them the flexibility to combine cocktail and sit-down elements for their reception. Eventually the couple settled on the unique and beautiful Sydney Observatory.
To match her distinctive location, Brooke knew she had to have a special gown. A visit to couturier Elizabeth Sparks inspired her and Brooke’s gown, a structured column gown in white silk satin with a high thigh split, was the perfect combination of elegance and allure. She accessorised with a tulle veil, crystal headpiece and to finish the look, a pair of white Jimmy Choo shoes, which she bought in New York the day after David proposed.
As well as wearing a blue crystal pendant that had belonged to her great-great-grandmother, Brooke’s bridesmaids were also decked out in blue. Her two attendants wore silver-blue knee-length gowns from Mr K with matching strappy silver heels. The bride was the only one to carry a bouquet, which was made up of white Singapore orchids. Instead of carrying flowers, Brooke’s bridesmaids and her flower girl each wore a wrist corsage.
The reception was a true party but, in keeping with the venue, was a little bit unusual. Instead of a traditional sit-down entree, the guests were served stand-up roving-style entrees in noodle boxes. Dessert was also a social affair with the couple deciding on a chocolate fountain in honour of Brooke’s favourite dessert, chocolate fondue.
When designing her invitations, Brooke also had personalised postage stamps made, which were based on a black and white picture of the bride and groom. Then at the reception, the couple had a photobooth set up so guests could have their own retro pictures taken. The bride says the photobooth tied whole theme together and was a massive novelty and endless source of amusement for guests.
