Fiona would have guessed what was on the cards if Rob had organised a romantic dinner or getaway, so on New Year’s Eve, as they were walking out the door, Rob got down on one knee. The timing was perfect for sharing their news and celebrating that evening.
The couple settled on a winter wedding at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, where Fiona’s parents and grandparents were married. The couple added their own personal touches to the traditional ceremony with Fiona’s mother and brothers joining the entrance procession and preceded the bridal party down the aisle.
The bridesmaids were dressed in black knee-length cocktail dresses and Fiona wore a beautiful ivory satin gown with antique lace and Swarovski crystal overlay – the second gown she had tried. She paired it with ivory, peep-toe satin heels and a single-tier, cathedral-length veil with a vintage-style, pearl and crystal hairpiece. In keeping with the vintage theme, the men wore traditional morning suits with fatboy cravats and travelled to the reception in a 1929 vintage Dodge.
The Water Rat Hotel hosted their relaxed and original reception, which was cocktail style. Gourmet finger food and fine wines were served, and a live band played funk, soul and jazz for the guests. The couple ended the day with a walk down Chapel Street together, still dressed in their wedding outfits.
