Swedish-born Anna had always wanted to get married at Kalmar, a beautiful city on the Baltic Sea. So when the time came to plan her wedding to Australian-born Jason, the couple and their families headed to Sweden.
Planning a wedding overseas wasn’t all smooth sailing for the bride, who says it was hard to visualise how the wedding would look when they weren’t able to see any of the details. The bride’s mother, who is based in Sweden, took care of most details and Anna arrived in the country two weeks before the wedding to oversee the finishing touches.
The couple handled a lot of details themselves including making their own invitations, and setting up the castle the night before the wedding. To include the Australian friends who couldn’t make it to their Swedish wedding, the couple held a cocktail party at The Pier in Port Melbourne before they left.
The couple planned a traditionally short, Swedish civil ceremony outside in the garden with sweeping views of the water. But disaster struck when it started raining an hour before the ceremony. At the last minute, they moved the ceremony into one of the castle’s beautiful rustic rooms, which featured a golden ceiling, gorgeous wooden floors and decorated with paintings of the kings and queens who had resided in the castle once upon a time.
Anna wore a strapless Mariana Hardwick dress made from ivory silk and beaded lace and carried a bouquet of red flowers. Her sister was her only attendant and looked stunning in a red silk gown she designed herself.
Following their fairytale wedding, Anna and Jason honeymooned in Paris.
