Kristy went to Joost’s bakery to introduce herself as the new cafe owner in town and to ask about supplying bread. After a few deliveries, he asked Kristy out.

The couple, who now have two young children, struggled to find the time to squeeze wedding planning into their already very busy lives. They decided to wed on the strawberry farm they call home. With hectares of gorgeous lush countryside to work with, Kirsty set about proving that you don’t need to break the budget to have a beautiful wedding, as long as you’re willing to do a lot of the work yourself.

When it came to her dress, Kirsty chose a Grecian-style satin gown by Toni Maticevski. Classically understated, the gown embodied the chic but relaxed ambience the couple wanted to infuse into their wedding. Kirsty accessorised with a striking organic headpiece and bouquet featuring David Austin roses, brunei, pepper berries, strawberries, strawberry leaves and rosehip, which was made by her close friend Michelle Collison from Shady Fig Organique Flowers.

The bride’s mum married the couple under an old ceder tree on the property, where Joost and his friends camped out as kids. The weather was picture-perfect and Joost carried Kirsty over the dry creek beds to the ceremony, honouring a very romantic tradition from his Dutch heritage.

After the ceremony finished, guests followed the couple down a path, illuminated by candlelit flour bags from Joost’s bakery, to the reception. Set under a marquee in the middle of the couple’s property, the reception took advantage of the breathtaking countryside and captured the newlywed’s no-fuss personalities. The table settings were clean and simple, decorated with small bunches of native flowers and handwritten, bird-shaped placecards.

A close friend catered for the small and intimate reception and as delicious as the wedding cake was, it was no match to the fig and walnut love bread that was the couple’s bomboniere. Baked by Joost himself, the individual loaves were proof that the cooking talents run in the family!
