Nick and Melissa were on a month-long trip around Europe when Nick proposed on an empty pier overlooking the Swiss Alps.
The wedding planning was a stress-free experience for the laid-back, positive couple. They approached the wedding with the idea of sharing their favourite things with their favourite people.
A lover of everything vintage, Melissa’s dress was an original 1950s gown which she purchased only a week and a half before the wedding. In line with the vintage theme, Melissa wore 1960s-inspired shoes and a handmade veil purchased on Etsy.com. Her three bridesmaids wore matching 1950s-style cocktail dresses and hairpieces, but customised the rest of their outfits individually.
Nick designed and handmade the invitations and place settings, and Melissa raided thrift stores for vases, glasses and other items to use as decorations. The reception venue, Vue Restaurant, was decorated with native Australian wildflowers in mismatched vases, and the guestbook consisted of a pianola roll and a vintage typewriter. They also focused on products local to their venue in Boonah, a small Queensland town the couple discovered and fell in love with on a Sunday drive.
Self-confessed food lovers, Melissa and Nick took care to choose a great menu. They were thrilled with Vue Restaurant’s amazing dinner, which started with canapes, progressed to char-grilled beef and lemon-spiced salmon, and ended with fig pudding and warm chocolate and walnut tart. The wine came from the couple’s favourite winery, Kooromba, based in Boonah.
