The couple chose Lennox Head, near Byron Bay, where Ben grew up as the destination for their Aussie nuptials. Not being in Lennox Head meant the couple had to decide on a venue by looking at photos on the internet. Cassie says they relied on recommendations from their caterer and photographer to choose a couple of options and asked Cassie’s parents to visit the venues that made the shortlist.

Instead of employing a florist, Cassie ordered roses, lisianthus and freesias from the Brisbane markets and had them delivered the day before the wedding. Friends and family of the couple pitched in to arrange the bouquets.

The ceremony and reception was held at Coorabella, a private house the couple hired with a view of Byron Bay and the hinterland. The pair was married beneath a 150-year old fig tree with the rolling hills of the hinterland in the background.

With friends and family travelling from all over the world, Cassie says the wedding felt like a big reunion. To encourage their guests to circulate, Cassie and Ben decided against a formal seating plan and let guests choose their own seats and mingle between the canapes and the main course.
