This step-by-step wedding checklist will help take the planning out of your day. It covers the basics from 12 months in advance right through to the day before.
Your wedding checklist:
12 months: After working out your wedding budget and choosing a date, start to look at venues for your ceremony and reception. Booking this as early as possible is essential, especially if you are having a destination wedding or if your date falls in the peak season. Also book your officiant.
9 months: Next on your wedding checklist: choose your wedding gown. If you want to buy it off the rack, this may be an easy task. However if you decide to have it custom-made, you will need to schedule in the necessary fittings and also the delivery date. You can leave your wedding accessories until closer to the time.
6 months: After ensuring he/she understands what you want for your wedding photos, book your photographer. Also decide on your overall wedding theme and book a florist accordingly. Finalise your guest list, then organise and start writing your wedding invitations. You will also need to arrange a caterer, if your venue doesn’t already offer a catering service.
3 months: Book any entertainment you may want, such as a band. Organise the decorative elements of your reception, such as the table settings and cake, in keeping with your theme. If there is DIY involved, for example if you are making your own name placecards, get started as early as you can. Also schedule in time for your hen’s party.
1 month: An important step on your wedding checklist is scheduling a rehearsal, ensuring as many of the wedding party as possible can attend. Organise a hair and makeup trial, for yourself and your bridesmaids if necessary. Follow-up with all relevant wedding professionals to ensure arrangements are proceeding smoothly. Also finalise guest numbers and confirm with the reception venue and caterer.
1 week: Write up a time schedule for your wedding day and revise it with the venue. Schedule in any last minute beauty appointments, such as a manicure and pedicure – shellac is a good idea to ensure no chipping. Also try to schedule in some time to relax, for example by having a massage.
Day before: Last on your wedding checklist: ensure your wedding gown and accessories are ready and laid out. Plan a substantial, healthy breakfast for the next morning. Finally, get to bed early to ensure you have lots of energy for the big day!
