These 11 wedding venues are all within three hours of Sydney (yes, really)

Travel time isn't the only factor you'll have to think about if you book a wedding venue that's hours away from your hometown.
You'll also need to think logistics. Will you arrive the day before? Are you going to pay for your bridal party's accommodation or ask them to sort it out themselves? What happens if you forget to pack the chocolate truffle wedding favours? Then you need to spare a thought for your guests and how they'll get to and from your venue. The last thing you want is some of your nearest and dearest bowing out because the wedding is "too far away". To avoid running into any of the above problems, think about setting a clear limit on the amount of time you're willing to travel to your venue, then start the search within that area. Trust us, you'll still find spaces that tick all of your boxes and don't require their own road-trip playlist. To get you started, we've found 10 beautiful venues that are all within a three-hour drive of Sydney.

For an award-winning space...

Waterfront views and award-winning fare await at The Lagoon Seafood Restaurant in Wollongong. The restaurant is just over 90 minutes' drive from Sydney’s CBD, perched where Fairy Creek Lagoon meets the Pacific Ocean. The venue is ideal for a relaxed and classic celebration, and you’ll have a choice of five separate event spaces: Moonlight Room, Reflection Room, Coral Room, Grace Room and Grand Dining Room. The Moonlight and Reflection Rooms, plus the Coral and Grace Rooms, can be combined to create larger spaces for more elaborate celebrations. The flexibility of these spaces means the restaurant is suitable for all styles of weddings, be it an intimate cocktail affair with 30 guests or an all-out party for more than 350.

For a reception masterpiece...

Imagine how impressed your guests will be when you tell them that the likes of Queen Elizabeth, Cate Blanchett, Cadel Evans and Jack Thompson will be attending your big day. Okay, so maybe they won’t actually be there, but their portraits will be. Welcome to Canberra’s National Portrait Gallery, a three-hour drive from Sydney. The gallery is a striking space for a modern wedding reception and boasts a handful of different event areas. On your arrival, you and your guests will be welcomed with delicious canapés and beverages. Leave your guests to admire the hanging masterpieces as you and your bridal party head outside to have photos taken in the gardens of the parliamentary triangle.

For a Victorian stunner...

Yester Grange sits on 20 acres of totally private parkland at the top of Wentworth Falls waterfalls. The property is smack-bang in the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains, and has a gorgeous outlook from all sides. To really take in the panoramic views, the green lawn separating the house and gardens is just the place. The house is actually a Victorian mansion that has been lovingly restored and fitted out with crystal chandeliers and antique furniture. Couples can make Yester Grange their pre- and post-wedding stay, too. There are two different accommodations on-site: The Gatehouse Cottage and The Parkhouse. Both make great options for bridal party prepping on the big day.

For a wine-country classic...

Elegant, classic and a little bit fancy-pants are three words that perfectly sum up Eschol Park House. This stunning heritage home near Camden sits on more than an acre of landscaped gardens and makes a dreamy setting for a pretty garden reception. There are three rooms available: the Queen Victoria Ballroom, the Regency Room and the Garden Room. The ballroom is (as ballrooms often are) magnificent. It's the largest event space on offer at Eschol Park House and can cater for up to 175 guests. The Regency Room is located on the venue’s second floor and has two balconies. The Garden Room has sandstone walls, timber beams and tiled floors, and is ideal for more intimate wedding receptions.

For unrivalled luxury...

Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley truly is an extraordinary venue, only two-and-a-half hours from Sydney. For starters, it puts the ‘ultra’ in ultra-luxurious. Next, it is located on the Great Dividing Range, tucked between Wollemi National Park and Stone National Park. Then there’s the fact that the resort sits on 7000 acres. Oh, and let’s not forget the resort itself, with its homestead-inspired villas (each with a private pool, of course), exceptional dining room, incredible spa and a list of activities as long as your arm. Swap your ‘I do’s on the grounds before your reception on one of the private decks. Your menu will be just as incredible as your day, with the resort’s chefs capable of creating on-point menus for chic cocktail events, lavish five-course degustation dinners or even opulent banquets taken under the stars.

For a country celebration...

Peppers Craigieburn can be found in Bowral in the Southern Highlands. The estate is only an hour and a half from Sydney. Peppers Craigieburn has an abundance of country cred, from the lacework iron verandahs and grand staircase at the entrance to heritage-listed stables and a tucked-away rose garden. There's a smattering of outdoor locations on offer for your ceremony, as well as several room choices for the reception. Then you have the flexible wedding packages, with luxe extras like lawn games, wedding eve barbecues or dinners, hen’s party high teas, golf for groomsmen and spa sessions. The menu for your celebration centres around local produce and can be arranged to suit your tastebuds.

For a bayside beauty...

Regatta Rose Bay might only be a hop, a skip and a jump from Sydney's CBD, but for couples wanting to stick close to home, that will be music to your ears. This venue boasts a gorgeous perch: it's right alongside the marina at the end of the promenade and is near both Redleaf Beach and Blackburn Gardens. As well as being a dining hot-spot, it also makes a great space to host your wedding reception. There are two different hire options available. For intimate lunches or dinners, The Blue Room is just the ticket. This space is the restaurant's semi-private dining area that overlooks Sydney Harbour and Rose Bay. Couples with more guests to accommodate can book the entire venue, which includes access to the main dining room, bar and The Blue Room. Flexible floor plans and menu options are also available.

For a stately pile...

Dreaming of a timeless country wedding? You’ll be smitten with Stanley Park near Port Stephens from the moment you clap eyes on this waterfront estate. The eight-bedroom homestead sits on 28 acres of park-style grounds, and comes with uninterrupted water views. With the sun shining, swap your vows beneath the lofty boughs of the property’s old fig tree or right by the water. Those after a church ceremony can make use of a handful of chapels close by. Keep things casual with a relaxed picnic or barbecue reception on the green lawns, or go with the traditional option and host a formal sit-down meal. Marquees can be set up on the property and the homestead’s sunroom can be used for receptions with a guest list under 40.

For vines and rustic feels...

A beautiful estate in the Hunter Valley, Peterson House is only two hours from Sydney. Couples can hold both their ceremony and reception on the grounds. The Cuvee Lawn and gardens are great for autumn weddings, cherry blossoms flower in spring, and the cellar door deck should be your go-to for summer celebrations. The estate’s main building has been built from sandstone slabs, recycled timber beams and polished timber floors. It has a gorgeous verandah that looks out onto panoramic views of the vines. The building is neighboured by cottage gardens and a pond with a jetty. The team at Peterson House understand no two weddings are the same, so there are plenty of options to put your own spin on the big day.

For views for days...

“Look at that view!” You'll be hearing that all day when you swap ‘I do’s at Leuralla Amphitheatre in the Blue Mountains. A celebration here is a unique experience, and the amphitheatre is suitable for both intimate and grand occasions. This ceremony space is located less than two hours from Sydney and even boasts unlimited parking – bonus! When you’re officially hitched, you and your wedding party can move to the gardens across the road for your photography. If you or your significant other are kids at heart, make sure to pay a visit to Leuralla Toy and Railway Museum for some quirky happy snaps.

For a coastal institution...

The Bathers’ Pavilion is one of the closest in this collection of venues (less than 30 minutes from the CBD) so it's a handy option for couples who don't want to stray too far. It also happens to be a Sydney icon that doubles as a sophisticated seaside wedding venue. Its historic Art Deco façade is instantly recognisable, even though its interior has had a facelift or two. A dedicated function room and sun-kissed terrace now sit on the building’s first floor, and both are exclusively yours when you get hitched here. The event space has been aptly dubbed The Room, and boasts walls clad with 1200 sheets of silver. This clever design trick creates a look of light reflecting on the water. Your wedding party will move into The Room following an al fresco ceremony on the terrace.
